### Summary
These positions are located in New River Gorge National River, in the Maintenance Division. Please visit find a park for additional park information.
These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement may be eligible for rehire in subsequent service years provided the employee does not exceed 1039 hours of work in their service year.
**PLEASE NOTE: The National Park Service's (NPS) policy on Less than 1040 appointments (also know as temporary seasonal appointments) has changed. Your service history will be reviewed to ensure compliance with current NPS Less than 1040 policy prior to you being offered a position in the Northeast Region.**
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for New River Gorge National River is May-Oct, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: 05/27/18
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
AREA INFORMATION: New River Gorge National River is located in West Virginia, approximately 60 miles south of Charleston. Headquarters is located in Glen Jean, West Virginia. The area is largely rural, with numerous small towns. Several communities are within commuting distance to the park such as Beckley, Fayetteville, and Oak Hill. Complete shopping and medical services are available in the surrounding area but Charleston, WV has larger shopping centers, a university, and numerous medical specialists.

### Responsibilities
This temporary position is located in the Maintenance Division of the New River Gorge National River assigned to work on construction projects. The incumbent may be assigned anywhere in the park when required. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility construction and maintenance duties. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts under the direction of a journeyman. Performs repairs to buildings and quarters. Constructs, installs, repairs and replaces items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim and cabinets. Replaces defective siding, steps, windowsills and thresholds; replaces glass panes and damaged portions of concrete or wooden walks and/or steps. Uses both hand and power tools to complete duties. Paints various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces, and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets. Assists higher-level employees by mixing or stirring paints, moving drop cloths and scaffolds, and cleaning walls in preparation for painting. Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures. The incumbent is not required to perform specified length and angled cuts required of higher graded electricians and their work is checked during progress and upon completion. Performs masonry work of limited difficulty involving the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures. As directed/prescribed, mixes soils, water and amendments for mortars or adobes; removes damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair work, and may perform duties that require a basic knowledge of applicable techniques and procedures to complete simple projects. Utilizes the common trade tools associated with this work.

* You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
* Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
* Applicants must be at least 18 years old due to the hazardous work (ie. work with chainsaws, driving a motor vehicle, etc.)
